Cherished by locals and
tourists alike, the covered roadway through the township
of Cowes, Phillip Island, attracts attention and
provides an air of familiarity for many who must have
holidayed in the area for decades. Even though some
parts of the town reflect the demands of a million
visitors a year, it's still very country, and we found a
clean Motel room with it's own facilities, and an
evening meal throw in for just $60!
Mind you, the old Isle of
Wight Hotel, is due to be replaced by a five star resort
sometime soon. This change is bound to cause some
anxiety for the lovers of the township of old, when the
gravel road snaked it's way through the fields.
Cowes is perfect for a
family holiday because at any time of the year there are
affordable restaurants and safe beaches. The mild
climate and proximity to Melbourne, about two hours away
by road, enable many day-trippers to enjoy the surfing,
swimming and sightseeing all year round.
